Omar al-Bashir was born in Hosh Bannaga, Sudan, in 1944. Omar al-Bashir is the current President of Sudan. Omar al-Bashir studied at the Egyptian Military Academy and also the Sudan Military Academy. Omar al-Bashir joined the Sudanese Army in 1960. Omar al-Bashir served in the Yom Kippur War in 1973, on behalf of the Egyptian Army. He eventually rose to the rank of Brigadier General and led a military coup which saw him took power in 1989. Omar al-Bashir has been the President of Sudan ever since.
During his time in power the Second Sudanese Civil War took place, as well as the crisis in Darfur. In 2008 the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against al-Bashir, so he could stand trial for his involvement in the massacres that took place in his country under his rule. Omar al-Bashir has yet to submit himself to the ICC and it is very unlikely he will ever do so.
