George Abela was born in Qormi, Malta, in 1948. George Abela is the current President of Malta. George Abela studied at the University of Malta, he eventually graduated as a lawyer. Following his studies he worked with a major worker union in Malta. George Abela was also for a time the president of the Malta Football Association, where he brought some long lasting changes and improvements to the league. George Abela was involved in politics from 1992 to 2008, although generally unsuccessful. In 2009, he was nominated as President by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.

Joseph Muscat was born in Pieta, Malta, in 1974. Joseph Muscat is the current Prime Minister of Malta. Joseph Muscat studied at the University of Malta and also at the University of Bristol. Joseph Muscat became a member of the European Parliament for the Labour Party in 2004. Joseph Muscat would leave the European Parliament in 2008 in order to sit in the Maltese House of Representatives where he became the leader of his political party and the leader of the opposition. Joseph Muscat was elected as the next Prime Minister of Malta in 2013.

Lawrence Gonzi was born in Pieta, Malta, in 1953. Lawrence Gonzi is the current Prime Minister of Malta. Lawrence Gonzi started in politics in 1987, however he was unsuccessful in being elected. Lawrence Gonzi was however successfully elected in 1996 and became a member of the opposition. In 1998 he was re-elected and became Minister for Social Policy. The next year he became Deputy Prime Minister. In 2004, when the previous prime minister, Eddie Fenech Adami, resigned he took over his post and became the new Prime Minister of Malta, he was re-elected in 2008.
