Giorgio Napolitano was born in Naples, Italy, in 1925. Giorgio Napolitano is the current President of Italy. Giorgio Napolitano studied at the University of Naples Federico II. Giorgio Napolitano became involved in politics during his university years, when he joined an anti-fascist student group. In 1945 he joined the Italian Communist Party. He was elected for the first time to parliament in 1953, he would be re-elected straight through 1996. From 1996 to 1998 he was Minister of the Interior. From 1999 to 2004 he was a member of the European Parliament. In 2006 he was elected by the Italian parliament to become the next president.

Enrico Letta was born in Pisa, Italy, in 1966. Enrico Letta is the current Prime Minister of Italy. He studied political science at the University of Pisa and also studied at the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies. Enrico Letta began his political career in the early 1990's, he was involved with several political parties before settling and helping to found his current party the Democratic Party in 2007. Enrico Letta also served in several imporant ministerial posts over the years, including Minister of European Affairs and Minister of Industry.

Enrico Letta's party obtained the most votes during the 2013 general elections however this was not enough to form a government, the leader of the party at the time of the elections Pier Luigi Bersani was unable to form a coalition and he eventually resigned. Enrico Letta then became by default the leader of the Democratic Party and was tasked with trying to succeed where his predecessor had failed so miserably. Enrico Letta would succeed in forming a coalition which included many of the major parties and he then became the new Prime Minister of Italy.

Mario Monti was born in Varese, Italy, in 1943. Mario Monti was the Prime Minister of Italy. Mario Monti studied economics at the Bocconi University and also at Yale University. Mario Monti taught economics at the universities of Turin and Bocconi in Milan. In 1989 he became the rector of Bocconi University. Mario Monti was appointed in 1995 as European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Services, Customs and Taxation. In 1999 he moved on to become the European Commissioner for Competition. Mario Monti was appointed as a Senator by the Italian President on November 9th 2011. When Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi resigned a week later, Monti was asked to form a caretaker government until the next elections. Mario Monti was appointed as the new Prime Minister of Italy on November 16th 2011.

Silvio Berlusconi was born in Milan, Italy, in 1936. Silvio Berlusconi was the Prime Minister of Italy, he has served in this post on two previous occasions. Silvio Berlusconi studied law at the University of Milan. Before joining politics he had an extremely successful business career, which has seen him become the 74th richest man in the world. His main fortune was made in the media industry. Silvio Berlusconi was first elected to parliament in 1994 and became prime minister a few months later, this lasted until 1995 when his coalition collapsed. He ran in the 1996 elections but his party was defeated. Silvio Berlusconi ran again in the 2001 elections and this time achieved victory and became prime minister for a second time. Silvio Berlusconi lost the 2006 elections, but returned in the 2008 elections when the previous government collapsed and he was re-elected as prime minister for a third time.
