Biography:


Jalal Talabani was born in Silemani, Iraq, in 1933. Jalal Talabani is the current President of Iraq. Before becoming president he was active in Kurdish resistance movements, he played a leading role in the struggle for Kurdish autonomy. Jalal Talabani was elected president in 2005 by the Iraq National Assembly, and he was re-elected in 2006 under the new constitution.

Biography:


Nouri al-Maliki was born in Babil, Iraq, in 1950. Nouri al-Maliki is the current President of Iraq. Nouri al-Maliki obtained a Bachelor's degree at Usul al-Din College, and a Master's degree at Baghdad University. Nouri al-Maliki was a staunch opponent of Saddam Hussein's regime, however he was exiled in 1979. Nouri al-Maliki continued his opposition from abroad. Nouri al-Maliki returned to Iraq following the 2003 invasion by the United States. Nouri al-Maliki was elected to the National Assembly in 2005, and he was elected president by the same assembly in 2006. The latest elections in 2010 were relatively inconclusive and it remains to be seen if al-Maliki will keep his post as prime minister.
