Francois Hollande was born in Rouen, France, in 1939. Francois Hollande is the 24th and current President of France. Francois Hollande studied at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris and also at the École Nationale d'administration. While a student Francois Hollande worked on François Mitterand's unsuccessful presidential campaign in 1974. Francois Hollande would go on to become a full member of the Socialist Party in 1979.


Francois Hollande was elected for the first to the National Assembly in 1988, however he would lose in seat in 1993. Francois Hollande was able to be re-elected during the 1997 elections at this time he also became the First Secretary of the Socialist Party. His party would struggle in the 2002 and 2007 elections and he would resign as the First Secretary of the Socialist Party in 2008.

Francois Hollande ran in the elections to become the Presidential nominee for the Socialist Party, at first Dominique Strauss-Kahn was regarded by far as the favourite in this race. However, following sexual assault allegations against Strauss-Kahn he withrew from the race and Hollande became the clear favourite to run in the next elections as the Socialist Party's candidate. Francois Hollande would go on to the win the 2012 Presidential elections against the incumbent President Nicholas Sarkozy.

Manuel Valls was born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1962. Manuel Valls is the current Prime Minister of France. He studied at the Pantheon-Sorbonne University. Manuel Valls joined the Socialist Party in the 1980's and served in several internal party posts to key Socialist Party members during this time.

In 1998 he was elected as the Vice-President of the Regional Council for the Ile-de France, in 2001 he was elected as the Mayor of Evry a suburb of Paris. In the leadership race for the Socialist Party was supported Segolene Royal over François Hollande in 2008, but in the 2012 vote when his own bid to become the leader of the Socialist Party failed he endorsed Hollande over Royal.

Manuel Valls was selected to replace Jean-Marc Ayrault on April 1st 2014 following Ayrault's resignation.

He ran in the 2007 French presidential elections and eventually won defeating Segolene Royal in run-off elections.

Nicholas Sarkozy was defeated in the 2012 Presidential Elections by François Hollande.

Jean-Marc Ayrault was first elected to the National Assembly in 1986, during his years in politics he was involved in the leadership of the Socialist Party and he was also the Mayor of Nantes.

Jean-Marc Ayrault was a supporter of François Hollande's bid to become the presidential candidate of the Socialist Party. Following François Hollande's nomination in the primary and subsequent election as the President of France, he named Jean-Marc Ayrault as the new French Prime Minister on May 16th 2012.

Jean-Marc Ayrault resigned as the Prime Minister of France in April 2014.
