Biography:


Ismail Omar Guelleh was born in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia, in 1947. Ismail Omar Guelleh is the current President of Djibouti. Before becoming president he was a police officer, and eventually became the head of the secret police. He eventually became president in 1999 by succeeding his uncle Hassan Gouled Aptidon in the 1999 Presidential elections which he won.

Ismail Omar Guelleh was re-elected in 2005 and also in 2010, both of which he either faced controversy or no opponents.

Before becoming prime minister he held several government posts including Director General for Djibouti's Water Authority. He also served in several key government posts including Minster of Agriculture and Defence, prior to becoming the Prime Minister of Djibouti in April 2013.
