Raul Castro was born in Biran, Cuba, in 1931. Raul Castro is the current President of Cuba. He is the younger brother of Fidel Castro, Cuba's former president. Raul Castro played an active role in the Cuban revolution alongside his brother. Following the revolution he stayed active inside Cuba's administration. He took over from his brother in 2006, but was only officially proclaimed president in 2008.

Raul Castro was re-elected in the 2013 Presidential elections and he also announced this would be his last 5 year term. In late 2014 Raul Castro also announced a normalization of relations with the United States which might end decades of economic embargo.
