Biography:


Jorge Carlos Fonseca was born in Mindelo, Cape Verde, in 1950. Jorge Carlos Fonseca is the current President of Cape Verde. Jorge Carlos Fonseca studied at the University of Lisbon where he obtained a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Law.

Jorge Carlos Fonseca has been involved with Cape Verde's government and politics for a long time before becoming president, serving as Cape Verde's Foreign Minister from 1991 to 1993, and in 2001 he was defeated in his bid for the presidency. Jorge Carlos Fonseca would however triumph in the 2011 presidential elections, and he became Cape Verde's new President on September 9th 2011.

Pedro Pires was replaced in 2011 as the President of Cape Verde by Jorge Carlos Fonseca.
