Ian Khama was born in Chertsey, United Kingdom, in 1953. Ian Khama is the current President of Botswana. His education includes a stint at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, where he was trained as a military officer. Ian Khama served as the Commander of the Botswana Defence Force, but resigned in 1997 to join politics.

Ian Khama was later named vice-president of Botswana and was able to take his post following a by-election in 1998. He later held several other high profile posts. In 2003 he was elected as the chairman for his political party the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP). In 2008, when President Mogae stepped down, he took over his post as president. In 2009 he led his party to victory in the 2009 general elections.

Ian Khama was re-elected as the President of Botswana during the 2014 parliamentary elections.
