Biography:

Tshering Tobgay was born in Haa, Bhutan, in 1965. Tshering Tobgay is the second democratically elected Prime Minister of Bhutan. Tshering Tobgay studied at the University of Pittsburgh and also at Harvard University in the United States.


Tshering Tobgay served as a civil servant in Bhutan's government before being elected to the National Assembly. Tshering Tobgay became the leader of the People's Democratic Party in 2008 and served as the Leader of the Opposition until 2013. Tshering Tobgay became the 2nd Prime Minister of Bhutan in July 2013.

Jigme Thinley was born in Bumthang, Bhutan, in 1952. Jigme Thinley was the first democratically elected Prime Minister of Bhutan. His career as a civil servant began in 1974, this career saw him hold several high profile posts and being named prime minister on two occasions.


Jigme Thinley was elected as the Prime Minister of Bhutan in 2008, in the first ever democratic election in the country. Jigme Thinley was replaced as the Prime Minister of Bhutan by Tshering Tobgay in July 2013.
