Biography:


Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifa was born in Riffa, Bahrain in 1948. Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifa is the son of the former Emir Isa ibn Salman Al Khalifah. His education includes stays at military colleges in the United Kingdom and the United States. Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifa succeeded his father in 1999, he implemented some major reforms including giving women the right to vote, releasing political prisoners and having elections for parliament. Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifa is also opposed to the United States' invasion of Iraq.

Khalifa bin Salman al-Khalifa was named prime minister in 1970 by the current king's father, this makes him the prime minister who has been in office the longest without being elected.
